Harris County is the largest Texas County by population and with over 1,700 square miles of land it made sense to establish a satellite garden to support Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. In 1999, a location was chosen in SE Houston that would provide outreach to more Harris County residents by providing demonstration gardens and horticultural education and training.
Genoa Friendship Gardens started with 14 unique exhibit gardens illustrating perennials, vegetables, roses, herbs, Xeriscapes, water features and fruit trees to inspire and educate county residents. Over the years, the garden has grown to include an educational center building, trial gardens, Ask a Master Gardener phone room and Greenhouse facilities.
We are proud to host the following monthly events:
- Lecture Series (2nd Thursday, January – October)
These free lectures are open to the public and conducted in our educational center building.
- Open Garden Day (3rd Monday, March – October)
The public can tour the gardens, meet with Master Gardeners for advice and purchase plants from the Greenhouse.
- Weekly Garden Hours: Open all year round, Monday and Wednesday mornings, 9am-11am (weather permitting).
We welcome professional organizations, schools, churches, and individuals tours of the garden! If interested in a tour, please email Lili Bauerlein, Program Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
