Harris County is the largest Texas County by population and with over 1,700 square miles of land it made sense to establish a satellite garden to support Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. In 1999, a location was chosen in SE Houston that would provide outreach to more Harris County residents by providing demonstration gardens and horticultural education and training.
Genoa Friendship Gardens (GFG) started with 14 unique exhibit gardens illustrating perennials, vegetables, roses, herbs, Xeriscapes, water features, and fruit trees to inspire and educate county residents. Over the years, the garden has grown to include an educational center building, trial gardens, Ask a Master Gardener phone room and Greenhouse facilities.
